Stick with the "Mom & Pop's"
I just bought a complete setup over the holidays.
I researched what I wanted via the internet and took my list to the streets. No Circuit City in my area. Best Buy didn't have the upscale (XBR or ES) products I wanted. Not to mention, if you have any problems with your purchase, be prepared for a long drawn out battle. (Previous Experience) Rex TV told me that Sony didn't make an LCD Projection TV. Crutchfield was offering a 15% discount and free shipping if I bought the TV, Receiver, and DVD thought them. I just about ordered. On a whim, I checked the Sony site for a local ES dealer. It pointed me to 4 State TV in Joplin, MO. They beat the Crutchfield price (even with tax), and included delivery and installation the weekend of the purchase. In addition, the SAT-HD300 is on backorder and I was given an HD200 tuner as a loaner until the other arrives. Great service, the showroom is well stocked and most importantly, set up correctly both visually & audibly. I did cave in and buy my AS-F2's from Best Buy due to them being on sale. My AS-C1 and AS-P400 were bought from www.onecall.com . Prices for these speakers are pretty set, but the service was excellent. I called twice and both times the phone was answered by a human on the first ring. Received the speakers in two days. I plan on buying the AS-R1's as soon as they are available from onecall.com also. sto22

I also do this whenever possible. The BB & CCs get too much of the business anyway. The smaller stores will usually try to meet a competitive price ( or come close) and supply superior service.

I try to check out whatever is available in my area. I did however purchase my TV from a smaller chain. My wife and I purchased our first set from BB, but one Sunday we went to a smaller chain (Myer Emco - In the Washington, DC area) and bought a larger set for only $200 more. A steal in my opinion.
