Radio Shack bowtie modifications?!!

OK. I heard so many stories of this antena. so I went to local RS store and got one for 9.99$. I live in Apartment in DC surburban area and as u can see, I can't or barly get local digital reception.
My experience with this antena is Better than other models out there. I don't know why it's better? I get 45-50 depend on the angles. I want to know what are some modifications that can improve reception on this antena.?! have any1 tried signal amplifier like 2.2 GIGHTZ? would this help improve signal strength?

RS Bowtie

Did you replace the twin lead with a transformer (type F) mounted directly to the antenna? The use of an amplifier could help how far are you from the towers? If you try an amplifier find one with variable gain, I had very good success with doing this I am about 25miles from the towers in Philadelphia.
Also remember this antenna is really made for UHF not VHF.
