New NxtWave chip based DTV receiver at $152 list

I think that NxtWave must be rethinking their support of 8-VSB now that they have their COFDM chips being used in a state of the art DVB-T COFDM receiver at $152 list. This will most likely translate into around $107 or so on the street in the UK. If this were to be incorporated into the monitor it would cost as little as $40.

Compare this to the $200 to $400 that the CEA says DTV integrated set will increase in price after Chairman Powell mandates 8-VSB receivers in the US.

Watch for a major influx of grey market monitors, exemptions for monitors for special uses etc.

The irony is that after COFDM is used on auctioned stations 54, 55 and 59, US consumers will find themselves buying COFDM receivers to use with integrated 8-VSB monitors. They will not be using the 8-VSB reciever that cost them an extra $200 and will be using a COFDM receiver costing them $100.

Take a look at the specs on this COFDM receiver and check out the test results at bottom of article.
