Svcd

Recently purchased the Sony KP-51HW40 16:9. Many of my films are in 480x480 svcd mpeg2 format. There doesn't seem to be a stretching mode that completely eliminates the need for horizontal bars at the top and bottom of the screen when used w/Sony progressive scan dvd player. No problems with DVD's, which utilize the stretching mode resulting in a slightly distorted non-destructive picture. I did some research before purchasing, but was not aware of stretching issues other than 4:3 to 16:9. I guess everything requires it with these pseudo widescreen sets. Anything I can do to stretch the svcd picture would be appreciated.
