Key Dilemma

Does anyone know the implications of the pending DirecTV - Echostar (Dish Network) merger?

What i'm trying to say is that if folks currently have a directv or dish network hdtv receiver, will this STB still work with the "merged" service offering/technology? Will people have to go out and purchase yet another STB?

I had read somewhere that panasonic has stopped the research on newer DirecTV HD STBs until they are sure of what ends up happening with the merger.

Just curious...

You will get conflicting answers here as well. No one has a definitive answer yet. So it's a 'best guess'...
