Question Any DVI will do????

Please help me out. I am HDTV illiterate but am trying to get educated before a I buy my first HDTV in the next couple days. I just found out about this copyright protection garbage and dont want a new obsolete system!

My question is.... If a salesman says that it has a DVI input in the back of the TV, does this automatically mean that it is HDCP friendly???

Are all DVI inputs the same? Will any DVI input do the trick? Or does it have to be labeled DVI/HDCP or something like that?

Hi

Well there are very many different dvi connections out there. See

http://www.datapro.net/dvi.html

In the video universe DVI-HDTV is the connection you're probably looking for. So far as I know, all DVI-HDTV connections support HDCP. Since no programming has ever been encrypted with HDCP, it's probably one of those things that will die long before becoming a standard, but if you've got the money, a nice thing to have just in case.

As much as the legacy owners of HD equipment hope that DVi/HDCP will amount to nothing the manufacturers probally think otherwise.
All have incorporated some type of interface on the new models. All recording devices that are in market have a DVI. Even the new STB's will.
Hollywood and the manufactures are for making your Home entertainment system a vitrual jukebox. If you want Hd you 'll have to pay for it.

Sony Pictures-Sony Electronics
ABC-Disney

United -Paramount Studios- UPN
Warner Brothers-WB

DVI/HDCP benefits the producer of equipment and material but not the consumer or early adopter.
